Unique Wet Plate Collodion Portraits in Rome – Scato Secco Studio. A 30 minute journey into the past, technique from 150 years ago, location in the heart of Rome, unique photographic portrait… an authentic artwork

The wet plate collodion process on aluminum plates, a 19th-century photographic technique, continues to capture the interest of enthusiasts and beyond, for its technical challenge and evocative beauty accentuated by the spread of the current digital era. Using a solution of collodion mixed with photosensitive substances, the photographer prepares an aluminum plate, typically in the size of 13×18 cm, which is then immersed in the solution.
The plate is light-sensitive for a brief period, requiring quick and precise handling. Once exposed in the darkroom, the plate is immediately developed, capturing a unique
and intimate image that blends the
aesthetics of the past with the freshness of
contemporary innovation.
